Zep Cleaning Product Commercial - Camera Operator

The first commercial I worked on as a camera operator was for Zep Cleaning Products. I was originally brought on as an Assistant Camera, but the project ended up giving me a much bigger opportunity.

Before the shoot, I had done some research on the camera we were using, which I believe was the RED Gemini 5K. We filmed for an entire week inside a rented house, creating a series of commercials. The art team would come in and make something dirty, and then we’d film an actor cleaning it with the product.

The only issue was that the production had planned far too many scenes to realistically shoot in the time we had. A few days in, they decided to split the crew into two teams to move faster, and they asked if I could operate a camera on my own. I was more than happy to help, and since I had already familiarized myself with the RED, I was ready to go.

I spent the rest of the shoot operating the camera for the second team. I really enjoyed that experience. The crew was great, and it was a lot of fun being part of something with that level of production value.
