I really enjoyed working on a short film called Dominion Dogs. I used a creative lighting setup to give the film a stylized look, and I think it turned out well. The final image looks great, even though we didn’t have any set decoration. The walls were just blank and white. To be honest, it’s not really a short film in the traditional sense because the project was never completed. The director ended up losing interest, and the full film was never cut together.
That said, I still wanted to showcase some of the cinematography. I put together my own edit featuring some of my favorite shots, which you can find at the bottom of this post.
We shot everything in one day inside an apartment. For lighting, I used my Litepanels Gemini 1x1s to fill the space with a soft blue tone that acted as the ambient light. For the key light on the actors, I used a warm, orange-colored source. The contrast between the cool blue background and the warm key light gave the film a distinct look that I really liked.
Even though the project didn’t get finished, I had a great time working on it. I’m always looking for more short films that allow for creative visuals like this, and I hope to be part of more projects in that style soon.
