My Full Time Editing Position

Back in 2018, I took on a full-time editing position at a production company in Atlanta called Radiant3. It was a solid opportunity. I got to work on a wide variety of videos and commercials, many of which had a strong creative angle. It felt good to be involved in higher-quality commercial work, and over time, I became a much stronger editor, especially when it came to cutting fast-paced, energetic pieces.
That role also pushed me to really refine my sense of timing, pacing, audio editing, storytelling, and color correction. By the end of my time working there, I was a wizard at Adobe Premiere Pro. But after a while, I got tired of being in an office all the time, and I started to miss being on set. While I genuinely enjoy editing the right project, I realized that I need a balance between post-production and production to stay fulfilled. Sitting at a desk all day just doesn’t scratch the same itch as being on location with a camera in my hands.
Ultimately, I figured out that being a full-time editor wasn’t the right long-term fit for me. It’s kind of a shame, honestly. There are a ton of editing gigs out there, and many of them pay well. It always seems like everyone wants to shoot, but far fewer people want to handle the edit.
These days, I still edit, but mainly on projects I’ve produced myself. And I’m glad I had that full-time editing experience. It leveled up my skills in a major way and made me a better, more well-rounded video producer overall.
