I recently worked as the Video Producer and Director of Photography for a project in Atlanta for a healthcare app designed to help patients who are sick or recovering in the hospital. The videos were made for meditation, relaxation, and other calming exercises that patients could use directly through the app.

For this shoot, we rented a studio space in Atlanta that matched the peaceful tone the client wanted. It needed to feel calm and simple without looking too plain or distracting. I shot the project on my RED Komodo-X with a set of vintage Leica-R lenses, which gave the footage a softer and more natural look that worked well for the calming tone of the videos.

I also brought my lighting kit and teleprompter, and we spent the full day filming the client reading through scripted meditation and relaxation videos.

By the end of the shoot day, we had captured enough footage to create 19 finished videos.

One interesting part of this project was that the videos needed to work in both horizontal and vertical formats. Since people may watch them in different ways inside the app, I had to frame each shot so it would still look natural as a standard horizontal video while also being usable as vertical video content. That meant paying close attention to composition, the client’s position in the frame, and how much space I left around them.

After the shoot, I brought the footage back to my editing station and started working through the full series. I edited around two to three videos each day until all 19 videos were completed.

The editing process included choosing the best takes, cutting out mistakes, cleaning up the pacing, color correcting the footage, enhancing the audio, and adding music. For the final videos, I used a calming Tibetan singing bowls track that fit the tone of the app and helped support the relaxed feeling the client wanted.

This was a pretty straightforward shoot, but I enjoyed the process and was happy with how the videos turned out. The client was very happy with the final series, and I liked being part of a project that could help make someone’s hospital experience feel a little more calm. As a freelance Director of Photography and videographer in Atlanta, these are the kinds of projects I enjoy most: simple, purposeful productions that still require care in both filming and editing.
