For a while, I shot weddings. I wasn’t the lead videographer, but a second shooter for other people. That role came with a bit less pressure, which allowed me to focus on capturing great shots without stressing over the entire production. It was a unique chapter in my career where I got to blend creativity with real, high-stakes moments. Weddings are fast-paced and emotional, and being part of that energy, even from behind the lens, was actually pretty exciting.

One of the best parts about wedding work was how artistic you could get with it. Unlike corporate videos, where everything needs to be clean and controlled, wedding films leave a lot of room for creative expression. There’s something really satisfying about finding those quiet, cinematic moments in the middle of all the chaos. Plus, the pay was solid, which helped me stay afloat in those early freelance days.

Here are a few videos featuring footage I shot back then. I didn’t edit the final versions for clients, but these are my own personal edits using the footage I captured:

I have many stories from these gigs. One I’ll never forget happened during a wedding where the photographers had taken both rings to get detail shots. While I was filming the groomsmen getting ready, one of the photographers walked in and told the groom that they had somehow lost the bride’s ring. As soon as he left, the groom completely lost it. He started throwing things, yelling, and had a full meltdown. I knew I wasn’t getting any usable footage from that room, so I stepped outside and saw the photographers on their hands and knees searching the grass. I can only imagine the panic they were feeling.

I haven’t shot weddings in years. I eventually shifted my focus to other types of video work, but I’m grateful for that chapter. It taught me a lot, paid the bills, and gave me some wild stories to tell. And who knows, I wouldn’t rule out saying yes to the right wedding gig down the line.
