I filmed a video for a local immersive entertainment venue in Atlanta called The Illuminarium. It was a farily straighforward shoot, but the venue itself is incredible. Being able to film a space like this really inspired me, so I tried my best to capture visuals that did it justice.
The Illuminarium is located on the Beltline in Atlanta. When we filmed, the venue was filled with projectors displaying visuals across the walls and floors. I used my gimbal, but I also brought along my slider. Sliders feel like they’ve gone a bit out of style lately, but I still love the look they offer. There’s something really cinematic about a smooth dolly-style slide that you just don’t get from a gimbal. It does take more time to set up, and it’s less flexible, but in a space like The Illuminarium, it was worth the extra effort.
There was another shooter with me who was running around with a gimbal all day. That gave me the freedom to slow down and focus on getting a few really precise slider shots to show off how impressive the space is.
We also went into their testing area to film an interview. It was really interesting getting to see some of the new exhibitions they had in the works. We set up our interview in front of one of their massive projection walls, which made for a really amazing background.
This was a really fun project to be a part of, and I think the final video came out great. You can check it out here:
