I’ve worked on episodes across multiple seasons of the true crime show Accomplice to Murder with Vinnie Politan, which airs on Court TV. As the title suggests, the series focuses on people who were involved in murders, often exploring cases where accomplices were charged with the crimes themselves.
My first job on the show was filming the host, Vinnie Politan, during a segment where he called and spoke with prisoners on death row. Vinnie is the lead anchor at Court TV, so it was a big opportunity to work directly with him. For that shoot, I traveled to the Court TV headquarters in Atlanta, located near Buckhead. I set up the shot inside one of their producer bays, making sure to get the Court TV logo in the shot. The production team liked my work, and that led to me being brought on for more episodes of the show.
One of the coolest experiences I’ve had working in the true crime genre happened on this series. I filmed an episode that covered a well-known Georgia case that became the focus of a popular podcast called Up and Vanished. I don’t usually listen to true crime podcasts, but I had actually listened to that one, so I already knew all the details going into the shoot. Most of the time when I work on these shows, I learn about the case as we film. But this time, I was ahead of the story. I even got to film an interview with Payne Lindsey, the host of the podcast.
For that same episode, Vinnie and I traveled to the small town in South Georgia where the murder took place. I filmed all of his host segments throughout the town. We moved from location to location, capturing different talking head moments that were used across the episode. I also filmed B-Roll of the town and key locations in the crime. Vinnie was great to work with, he is a genuinely nice guy. At the end of the day, he asked to take a photo with me. It had been a long, hot day and I had been working nonstop, so it’s not the best picture of me. But I’m still glad I have it.
